A history of artists in East London
Artists have been present in London's East End over the last 30 years. East London has always been a working class area. During the 1960s, dock closures and slum clearance had left the district riddled with derelict buildings. As the price of these properties dropped, it began to attract a number of artists to the East End. Over the last 20 years the East End arts scene has flourished. A number of galleries , dealers, and student artists now work within the East End of London.
