Definition of ‘Kill Your Darlings’

The exhibition has taken its inspiration from the films title, which relates to the quotation by William Faulkner that “You must kill all your darlings” which is commonly taken to illustrate the necessity of getting rid of your idols for the greater good of your creative work. Figuratively killing the darlings that inspire you.

Definition of the ‘Cut Up’ technique
“When you cut into the present the future leaks out.”
William S Burroughs

The cut-up technique is traditionally a literary technique in which a text is cut up and rearranged to create a new text. The ‘Cut Up’ technique was popularized in the late 1950s and early 1960s by writer William S. Burroughs, and has since been used in a wide variety of creative contexts. For this exhibition we are broadening the concept of ‘Cut Ups’ so to include a wider range of artistic disciplines such as design, fashion, illustration, photography and art.

The world's most beautiful film magazine ‘Little White Lies’ has come on board as the offcial media partner for the ‘The ‘Kill Your Darlings’ Cut Up Art Exhibition.
