Working across a range of media, Murton often unpicks structures and processes and plays with repetition to create compositions. These abstract pieces never reveal a complete picture, but hint towards a continuation. Often the work seems to capture a moment in an abstract chain of events.
At the core of her visual vocabulary is a 'truth to materials' aesthetic. Through repurposing newspaper or reusing 1000 cans, structures are created exposing the constituent materials and forms. Rhythmic processes and a minimal, abstract aesthetic are used to reconsider our material world; marks as marks, ink as ink, similar to emptiness in Buddhist meditation.
