A millenial painter: playfully negotiating the tension between the digital and the analogue.
The motif of the tech-swipe - the greasy mark smeared by a language of swipes, clicks, flicks and drags, betraying the slickness of a pristine screen - illustrates the conversation between man and digital interface. Swipes become painterly marks: gestures.
What does it mean for a female artist to paint the gesture: a gendered mark assigned to the heroic male painter and his phallic spurt? Could the painted gesture be reimagined as the female orgasm? Complex, intricate, trapped, multiple or faked?
Toying with gendered conceptions of the domestic interior and of colour, my paintings investigate the disparity between real space, pictorial space and virtual space in a world dominated by digital screens.
