Working mainly with an inkjet printer and the ultimate format of painting, my practice is based on questioning the relationship between painting and digital image and their status of being an object in the current media condition. Each work that consists of multiple panels explores a counterbalance between digitally layered images on the surface and physical cut-out or overlapping of panels. By letting them lean against the wall, which reveals the gap between the two planes, I attempt to show the hidden three-dimensional qualities of painting and its relationship to the wall that it always relies on. Printed images are produced based on my aim to let an image retain its own autonomous nature as a thing itself. With an extreme close-up that introduces the materiality of paper, hand-drawn scribbles, and individual ink dots, it becomes not about things that are represented but about the objecthood of images.
