Engine Chat Chat, run by artist Elizabeth Murton, is an informal, supportive peer critique for artists in London, UK and beyond. Come and meet your peers for constructive critique in a 'generous' environment. All artists, at any stage of their career are welcome.
This is a special edition of Engine Chat Chat held in conjunction with the exhibition ‘Liminal Matter’, delivered in association with Greenwich Maritime Centre and Totally Thames with kind support from Arts Council England National Lottery funding.Artist’s working loosely around one of the following themes are invited to present their work for informal discussion.
Decay or entropy
Preservation, conservation or the museum
Negotiating the boundaries between nature and culture
‘Presenter’ tickets are available for artist’s who would like to present a piece of their own work for discussion (this may be through photographic representation of the work if the work is not suitable to bring) and ‘non-presenter’ tickets are available for artists who would just like to join in the discussion.
Engine Chat Chat is chaired to a style and philosophy which is informal and stimulating. Keeping the groups small, constructive conversation is encouraged in an inclusive environment. Emphasis is placed on peer feedback in response to the artist’s own questions and concerns.
-Constructive conversation is encouraged.
-It is an informal place to discuss art work and find out about other artist’s practices.
-It is an opportunity to dedicate some time to get feedback on the ideas and content of your art practice, as well as meet with other artists.
-The session is organised and gently facilitated- turn up and join in.
-It is peer feedback and it is not an advice session on which reliance should be placed.
-Take time to process the comments received and only take on board what is relevant to you. The sessions you attend should form part of wider conversations around your practice.
