Scope
Ethical reflection as a tool for innovation. It can be an approach to inspiration in creating socially responsible design in different sector of industry. It is differnt in appraoch to Vexed and Dune and raby in the critical positioning.
Notion of luxury
The objects due to its material culture and the details might have the notion of luxury associated with it. The projects tend to look beyond luxury. It tends to push the quality and design to the highest level so to increase longevity and preciousness. Fundamentally the material you buy for example is a cow leather trouser, it may sounds the project has hypocritical vision and to an extend it is but what is gives the consumer is a reflection on the unethical mass slaughter of cows and having an honour and respect for the animal which was sacrificed for the the user to protect its body, this suggestive reflection might impact on consumption behaviour and develop more sustainable thoughts and action over a period of time.
Project in three stages:
stage1: critical reflection on an object and triggering values of the viewers and creating new social interaction experience. Sell the products as signature pieces, more like art pieces. Limited editions to generate capital to move into stage 2 of researching alternative materials. Stage1 also involve in getting mass media and press to promote the message and vision.
Stage2: Solution stage, this stage is about taking action. After making the viewer have a reflection on it providing an alternative solution and in a way a cure for ethics is the second stage. Adding new value of reflections and appreciation and taking away the values of consumption and destruction from the object. So its the way to enter the mass market and to sell and promote the issue, vision and message.
Stage3: using the methodology and the approach and its cross disciplinary application. This stage is then exploring the scope of methodolgy to other products and scenarios. This is the stage when one can function as a consultant providing socially responsive design solutions and still be mass producible but remaining in the realms of the ethical design practice. It may influence commercial design practice and may be change consumption behaviour.
