Francis Ives makes paintings on panels, walls and other constructs that are static & Kinetic, made in relation to the given architecture of a space or potential intervention into a space. These paintings or designs use paper (a material that encourages expantion and duplication) in a way that resists use of the canvas and frame format. Imagery is made with non objective lines, shapes and marks, from simple geometric to meandering open form using combinations of drawing, collage and print, regurgitating and cannibalising previous works and other apropriated imagery. Pattern and decoration suggest an unresolved investigation into the pretty and the abject.
