I studied at Nottingham Trent University and Wimbledon College of Art, where I completed an MA in Sculpture during 2008. In the same year, I received the Clifford Chance Sculpture Award, given to a postgraduate student from the University of the Arts London.
My practice uses sculpture, installation and film. Concerned with the act of physical communication and the relationship this has within the technologically orientated systems of contemporary culture, my work parodies methods of communicating. I explore the ideal of technology as a tool to ‘bring us closer together’, which simultaneously seems to contain the possibility of removing us physically from one another.
The work ranges from creating hand-made, DIY re-inventions of existing technology based commodities, where I assume the role of a fastidious garden-shed inventor, to creating entire fictional spaces in which the viewer becomes (unknowingly) complicit in an estranged, uncomfortable or distanced sense of communicating.
I currently work as a lecturer at the University for the Creative Arts.
