Often theatrical, grungy and low-tech in materials, my work can often seem melancholic. Tragic comedy is an ongoing trajectory. I make sculptures, drawings and paintings that are often left to become part of a space that as a piece of art it doesn’t traditionally belong. I like living with things. When something unique happens, like a poster scorning at a painting of a worn out King (see ‘The King’s Room’) I photograph them and move on. My crafted objects become like solitary protagonists which have been mithered and haunted by their inadequacy and their inability to conform to the Noughtie quick fix era. But true empowerment comes with self acceptance and I hope that despite the tragic comedy, there is a quiet note of this.
